Former CACC Student teams up with Global Brigades

Helping students succeed is what CACC is all about. Rick Shanks, photonics instructor, is especially proud of former student, Rachel Brashears—2004 Hickman graduate, 2009 Columbia College graduate, and current second year medical student at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. While attending CACC, Rachel took Laser Technology, Photonics 1, and Photonics 2 as well as competed in SkillsUSA during which her Animated Holography project advanced to the national level of competition. Now her goal is to become a pathologist.
Eager to use her medical training in the service of others, she will travel to Honduras with Global Brigades.  The student-led, nonprofit health organization works to provide health and economic development support in developing nations and has served more than 350,000 people.  Global Brigades student and professional volunteers work with communities to produce sustainable improvements to quality of life and the environment, while respecting local culture.  Click here to find out more.
