It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!
Short on holiday cheer?? Visit CACC’s greenhouse for a quick pick me up.
With poinsettias everywhere, it looks like a sea of red in the greenhouse!
Sherie Rodekohr’s two greenhouse production classes have been busy tending over
300 bright red poinsettias since the first week of school. Poinsettias need
short days to trigger reproduction which produce the colored “bracts” or
flowers we come to associate with them. This is achieved using a blackout
cloth, which blocks out all natural and artificial light, forcing the plant to
produce its characteristic red "leaves". From planting, sanitation, pest
management, photoperiodic control to sales, this unit encompasses so many
facets of horticulture; Sherie says the students learn so much.
If you are interested in purchasing poinsettias from CACC,
their annual sale will take place on December 14 from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm at the greenhouse. Click here to view the flyer. Don’t miss
this opportunity to support these aspiring young agrarians.
