Congratulations to the LifeSmarts team consisting of
Kira Kirk (RB), Grant Gould (RB), Chandler Randol (RB), and Loyal Carpenter
(HHS) for placing first in the Missouri LifeSmarts Championship, February 26, 2014 in Jefferson City. They competed against
11 other Missouri teams to take the top spot. Awards were also given for top
individual test scores. Grant Gould received top honors for Heath and Safety
and Loyal Carpenter for Personal Finance. The contest consists of a written test
in a content area, a team activity, 2 rounds of quiz show like questioning on
stage and two additional rounds on stage as finalists. The team will represent
Missouri in Orlando, Florida, April 26-29th at the National LifeSmarts Competition. The LifeSmarts team is coached by Dr. Janet Bagby and Jo Ann Carpenter.
The LifeSmarts competition prepares students to enter the real
world as smart adult consumers. Competitors are tested on their knowledge of
consumer rights and responsibilities, environment, health and safety, personal
finance and technology.
